DecoDesk / Setup & help
Let’s get you
connected.
A few simple steps, then a clearer view of your network.
01 / Before you start
Bring your Mac and your owner password.
- macOS 14 or later, connected to your Deco’s main local network.
- A Deco already configured using TP-Link’s normal setup process.
- The TP-Link account password belonging to the network owner. This is different from the Wi-Fi password.
- For reservation editing: compatible Deco BE63 hardware 3.x in Router mode.
Choose Try demo on the welcome screen. It uses sample devices and simulated reservations, with no router or password needed.
02 / Connect
Three steps to your network.
Find your Deco.
Open Settings → Connect to my Deco → Find my Deco. The app discovers the router address from your Mac’s current network.
Allow Local Network access.
Choose Allow when macOS asks. If access was denied, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network and enable DecoDesk Network Admin, then try discovery again.
Enter the owner’s TP-Link password.
Choose Connect. The local connection does not require your email address or a certificate file. Your saved password is kept in macOS Keychain. Being on the same Wi-Fi alone does not grant router administration rights.
03 / Reservations
Save the draft. Review the change. Apply.
Scan your network and find the device. Enter the desired address in Reserved IP, then choose Save. Save keeps your labels, categories and reservation drafts on this Mac.
Choose Review & Apply to inspect the exact router changes. Check the device name, MAC address and old/new mapping before applying. Removing a reservation goes through review too.
The current device IP matches its reserved IP.
The reserved IP differs; the device may need its next normal DHCP renewal.
The app saves the configuration state it can retrieve before a change. These snapshots are useful records, rather than complete router restore images.
04 / Common questions
A few things that help.
The app can’t find my router.
Check Local Network permission, join the main Deco network, and try again. Guest networks, client isolation and some VPNs can prevent local access. If discovery is unavailable, enter the router’s IPv4 address under Advanced in connection settings.
Which password should I use?
Use the TP-Link account password of the network owner. The Wi-Fi password is different. A manager or invited account may not have the same local access as the owner. Update the stored password through the app’s connection settings if it changes.
Do I need a certificate or firmware authorization code?
No separate certificate file or firmware authorization code is needed. The app handles the selected local router’s certificate and checks the features your model, operating mode and firmware actually provide. Unsupported configurations may allow browsing only.
Why is the device still using its old IP?
A reservation takes effect when the device next asks for a DHCP lease. The app does not force a reboot. A device with a manually configured address may not use DHCP at all.
Where are my backups and credentials?
Use Open Backups in the app to reveal retrieved configuration snapshots. The owner password is stored in macOS Keychain. Deleting an app can leave local files and Keychain entries behind. Keychain Access can remove this edition’s saved login; select the entry for DecoDesk Network Admin.
Can I change device names and categories?
Yes. These are local labels stored on this Mac. Choose Save to keep your edits. They do not rename the device throughout your network or change its firmware settings.
Is the app free?
Yes. The planned Mac App Store release is free, with no subscriptions or in-app purchases. The public listing will be linked here after release.
